"Originally, the plan was to conduct a nationwide talent search for the perfect cover girl to pose as one of the novel's key characters, Trixie Foxalot. We thought it would be a great pre-promotiion to the book. Wouldn't you know Gabby West, a Hollywood actress and model caught wind of the plan and stopped me in the lobby of a Boulder Hotel before breakfast one morning and presented me with her portfolio. So much for the contest. We enlisted one of the truly great photographers in the world, Mindas, in Los Angeles. I was looking for a vintage Vargas-style feel like the old parts calendars used to have. Mindas nailed it. Though the shot we used veers a bit from the description in the book, it was obvious that this was a girl that could drive a man to leave his home and family."—Tony Bender
